Description:

«Àskold-28» is a motor-sail yacht and is supposed to be used for short and long distance voyages both on inland waterways and near-shore areas. The «Àskold-28» prototypes were steam pleasure crafts popular in the early 20th century. The yacht is well suited for family or parties of friends’ water recreation.

The hull is made of selected ship construction pine. The boat has the clinker planking. The longitudinal framing is laminated and the yacht has curved frames. The deck is covered with water resistant plywood with battens glued over its surface.

The glassed deck house and the cape are found in the central section of the hull. The metal funnel is set on the cape roof to make the yacht look like a steam cutter. The self-bailing cockpit is found astern.

Two pieces of sleeping accommodation are available at the fore body of the yacht. The lounge supplied with a folding table and several sofas is found in the middle section of the yacht. The sofas are supposed to be used as pieces of sleeping accommodation. The hearth is found next to the fiddley. The chimney is joined with the fiddley.

The separated WC is found at the after end of the yacht on the starboard side and the cook galley is found at the after end of the yacht on the portside. The WC is equipped with a marine toilet and a wash sink. The cook galley is equipped with a gas oven and a sink.

The 20 hp diesel engine is installed below the cockpit. The yacht is navigated using the mechanically-operated steer wheel and the hung rudder. In addition, the detachable wooden tiller is available.

The yacht has the ketch rigging which includes the stay sail, the gaff headed mainsail and the splined mizzen sail. The main mast is folding and the mizzen mast is demountable. In order to provide lateral stability, the 750 kg lead ballast weights are installed under the keel.

The yacht is equipped with manual and electric bilge pumps, the accumulator plant, inside lighting fittings and navigation lights.
